Not only is Flickr video crippled, it’s also attracted the ire of Flickr photo purists. The group No Video on Flickr now has over 10,000 members.
Count me in. I’m not a photo purist, I just hate seeing my favorite photo-sharing site embarrass itself with a hopelessly limited video option.

Flickr Video can hardly be called video. A ninety-second time limit makes it nothing but an optional add-on to the (admittedly excellent) Flickr photo-sharing service. I do mean optional: only paid users can upload videos.

With the release of Video Sitemaps, Google solidified its two-pronged approach to video: storage via YouTube, and search via Sitemaps. Knowledge gleaned from storage powers innovation in search: remember that YouTube videos got thumbnails in the SERPS before Sitemapped videos did.
