YouTube Should Sue Pakistan Telecom

Did you notice that YouTube was down for over an hour yesterday? Turns out it was an IP hijack by Pakistan Telecom. They were trying to censor content offensive to Islam within Pakistan, as per Pakistani government orders. They accidentally spread their little hijack around the world, blocking YouTube globally.
I won’t make any judgments on […]

China Fears Online Video

Seems China’s new online video regulations are even harsher than first anticipated.
* China’s State Administration of Radio, Film and Television will regulate and monitor the web video industry.
* Only state-owned or state-controlled companies can stream or broadcast videos online. Licensed web video companies must also have a “comprehensive program censoring system.” Unlicensed companies are […]

China Regulates Online Video

I am so glad I don’t live in China.
China’s State Administration of Radio Film and Television and Ministry of Information Industry recently announced new regulations on digital media that will go into effect at the end of January.
The regulations cover professionally produced content distributed online but there is speculation the state will begin to more […]

Grocery Sues College Filmmakers for $1M

Some n00bs don’t get it: the bad PR averted through overreaching censorship is often more than offset by the ill will accrued through overreaching censorship. Last week, grocery chain A&P fired brothers Mark and Matthew D’Avella for filming their school project Produce Paradise in their store.
Apparently, A&P can’t handle a little thing called freedom of […]

Sony Abuses DMCA to Censor Beyonce Fall Videos

I’d like to remind Sony that DMCA takedown notices require sworn statements. To lie in a sworn statement constitutes perjury.

Swedish Police Censors Pirate Bay

When the MPAA ordered Swedish State Secretary Dan Eliasson to have the Swedish police raid The Pirate Bay last year, he ended up with egg on his face. Ministerstyre, when a politician pressures another government agency to take action, is a serious crime in Sweden.
Apparently, the Swedish police has found what they think is a […]

Thailand Unbans YouTube in Exchange for Censorship

After threatening to sue, Thailand has backed down and agreed to unban YouTube. The catch? YouTube must censor any videos speaking out against Thailand’s ape-faced speech-suppressing king, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadejmonkeyboy. Apparently, insulting the guy can get you fifteen years in a Thai prison.
Fortunately, Google isn’t taking this monkey business lying down. Using their […]

EFF Sues Uri Geller for DMCA Abuse

The EFF goes after another copyright troll: Uri Geller.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has begun fighting back this week against one DMCA takedown abuser. The organization has filed a lawsuit against “paranormalist” Uri Geller for sending a takedown notice to YouTube over a video that heavily criticizes his psychic and magical abilities. The suit alleges […]

Video Banned from Congress Hits YouTube

On May 10th, 2007, this video was banned in Congress
Robert Greenwald, the director of Iraq for Sale was invited to testify before Congress by Rep. Jim Moran. He prepared four minutes from the documentary to show.
Republicans insisted this not be shown.
Wonder if they can get this video pulled off YouTube. Place your bets, people.

Thailand Sues YouTube

YouTube has balls the size of Google. When they’re not busy demanding fights with greedy multinationals, they’re helping people fight repressive governments. Thailand is suing them next week, after previously banning them for uploaded video clips that irritated their ape-faced little king.

Ban this blog if you want, Thailand: I’m posting one of those videos here. […]
