YouTube Advertisers Must Embrace Cats

by Mike Abundo on May 14th, 2008

First, the good news: YouTube introduces buzz targeting, where advertisers get the option to have their ads automatically matched to videos experiencing a spike in views, faves, and ratings. Pretty smart of YouTube.

Now, the bad news: It only works for partner videos. Anyone who’s been on YouTube long enough knows that surprise viral hits very often come from the ranks of non-partners. Blame it on advertisers’ hesitance to have their ads appear next to cats. Pretty dumb of advertisers.

Perhaps buzz targeting will show advertisers what they’re missing by not embracing cats.

YouTube is dropping the ball by only have “partner” producers. Everyone should have the opportunity to make money..like the person who uploaded the cat video. We have built a site where everyone can make money on their videos, and as your video becomes increasingly popular we do exactly what YouTube just “announced” and we had it built last year.
