Online Video to Compete with TV in Primetime Emmys

by Mike Abundo on February 12th, 2008

Anyone who says online video cannot compete with TV in terms of quality is a fool. As far as the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is concerned, online video and TV compete on the same level.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is announcing Monday it will consider broadband content for all existing prime-time Emmy award categories in September.

The move is a fast step up, considering the first Internet Emmy was handed out in 2006. Then, web shows were included for the first time last year, though they were relegated to the pre-ceremony before the live telecast.

Not that this belated recognition makes any difference, of course. Online video hits are determined by communities, not critics.
