Inside Online Video

A Trailer for a Book

by Mike Abundo on February 7th, 2008

Getting trailers out offline is expensive, but getting trailers out online is cheap. That’s why inside online video, even books can have trailers. Here’s a scene from the new book Celebutantes. As you can see, the thumbnail is optimized for maximum views.

“Getting trailers out offline is expensive, but getting trailers out online is cheap.”

You still have the issue of… how do you get people to watch your trailer.

I don’t think just making a trailer and putting it on YouTube, Blip.tv, Revver, Veoh, Daily Motion, etc etc, is enough.

If you’re going to do this kind of “pushing of the video everywhere”… the trailer will have to be compelling in and of itself to get people to watch it.

For example… if it’s really funny, if there’s hot babes in it, if it causes the “train wreck effect” (and people can’t help to watch), etc.

Also, you might be able to have it played with other videos people are already watching. (As a postroll or maybe to be commented on by the other video.)

So…. yes… getting trailers out online is much cheaper than offline. BUT, the kind if trailer you produce needs to be of a certain kind of quality.
