Prerollr Puts Ads in Embeds

by Mike Abundo on July 18th, 2007

Prerollr

Update, 9:49pm: The company is now called Revlayer. That makes sense, since their ads are actually more overlays than prerolls. Yes, things change quickly in this business.

While AdBrite InVideo provides inline ads for people who host videos on their own sites and Revver provides postroll ads for people who host videos on Revver, Prerollr provides preroll ads for people who embed videos hosted on other sites.

All you do is place a bit of code in your site’s header, and all embeds from many popular video services (eleven as of this writing) will carry preroll overlay display ads independent of the video itself. You can choose between two options per site.

  • Option A utilizes the Prerollr ad network to provide ads on all impressions. You generate revenue from these impressions.
  • Option B will display your advertisement 15 out of 20 times and a Prerollr house advertisement the other 5 out of 20 times.

See it in action here. I can’t seem to get it to work properly on my personal blog, probably because I resize video embeds manually. While Prerollr still lacks features — it doesn’t offer any contextualization, and reporting will be available on Wednesday — it opens the door to bringing more ad revenue further down the Long Tail of video superdistribution.
