Thailand Unbans YouTube in Exchange for Censorship
After threatening to sue, Thailand has backed down and agreed to unban YouTube. The catch? YouTube must censor any videos speaking out against Thailand’s ape-faced speech-suppressing king, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadejmonkeyboy. Apparently, insulting the guy can get you fifteen years in a Thai prison.
Fortunately, Google isn’t taking this monkey business lying down. Using their new Washington lobbying muscle, they’re hoping to have censorship declared as a barrier to trade — and thus, cause for economic sanction. I’m with Google on this one: in an information economy, censorship is obviously a barrier to trade.
