HBO Launches Online Video Project with YouTube Comedian

by Mike Abundo on May 9th, 2007

YouTube’s one and only Professional Idiot, Cory “Mr. Safety” Williams, announces his online video project with HBO: Runaway Box.

RunawayBox is a small creative group working in a new area called HBOlab. Yes, that HBO.

Our mission is largely experimental with a goal of entertaining ourselves and our fans on a daily basis. Our backgrounds and interests are fairly diverse and you will see that as we launch more and more of our work, over time.

Cory has experience bridging online and offline video, through a TV show featuring vloggers. While the site’s technical implementation makes you think HBO hires nine-year-olds as developers (IE only? No embeds? No RSS? Are you kidding me?), they’ve got the right kind of content creators. Now if only HBO would beef up their developers to match their videographers.
